Our Animals
We love our animals and take very special care of them and their fleece. This care, of both the animals and their fleece, is what we believe results in the wonderful products we make available to you.
At Sister Sheep our flock wears jackets to protect their coats and provide the cleanest fleece possible.
Rambouillet and Romeldale-CVM are fine wool breeds and covering their fleece is the standard among handspinners. Julie and Flo make the jackets following the design Julie has created for us. Sometimes the jackets are quite colorful and we imagine that folks driving by the ranch get a good laugh! The lack of VM (vegetable matter) in our fleece is something we are quite proud of. These animals do live outdoors, after all!
Here are some of our ewes busting out of their jackets on shearing day. After they are sheared, they get a new jacket - smaller size!
Sister Sheep has produced some beautiful naturally colored rams and they are available FOR SALE! Contact us at info@SisterSheep.com
About Our Sheep
We began our spinners flock in 2005 with 7 pregnant Rambouillet ewes. Read more...
In 2006, we introduced the Romeldale-CVM heritage breed into our flock when we purchased a Romeldale-CVM ram named Jack from Roy and Myrtle Dow of Black Pines Sheep. Our goal is to add staple length, density, and natural color.
Our color range is growing and we are pleased to be able to offer a variety of color as well as white that is excellent for dyeing or blending with other natural colors to add to the natural color palette. Our 2010 lambs include 5 ewes in varying shades of grey as well as a ram lamb whose fleece is white and caramel! This year we have 5 naturally colored sire rams breeding with 22 white-fleeced ewes and one dark brown CVM ewe.
March 2011 lambing season began with the birth of a beautifully colored lamb. We will keep some of our ewe lambs who display color and we will offer our ram lambs for sale. If you are interested in purchasing a lamb to add to your flock, let us know at info@sistersheep.com We LOVE to talk about our sheep!
